Feel free to join us at
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=222683851119&ref=mf in expressing your commitment to the Think Local Food First online petition. By signing there, or stating your support directly to me, you're supporting the freshest, highest-quality, farm-fresh food, as well as our local economy and farmers. You're also asking our government to do the same with our tax dollars.
Through this petition, Sustainable Chattanooga will ask our city governments and schools to add language in their purchasing policies wherein they consider local food first in any purchase, whether it's school nutrition, catering events, Thanksgiving decorations, or other. The city of Chattanooga (like many governments) uses a low-bid process that should also consider the value of contracting local business farmers, their employees and support businesses, even if they can't provide the lowest bid.
The directory below gives a list of farmers, restaurants, markets and grocery stores where you can buy local food first.
