Since my post about the pick-up truck got a response I will post another. Afew weeks ago I was at the gallery when a tour bus pulled up across the street and let out a lot of passengers for a meeting and lunch at GreenSpaces. The bus then parked on Rossville Avenue and idled for hours until the people reboarded and left for home. I posted this on Facebook and got no response, shows how much people on Facebook care!

Did the bus idle or run the genny? Most modern buses have two sets of air conditioners - one unit that runs on the engine, and a second unit (or several rooftop units) that run on 120v with the generator that's on board. This way, when the bus is not in motion, it can run the genny and keep the larger motor off.

What would be really cool now is for buses to have solar panels on the huge roof that charge a bank of batteries where the genset was. The secondary A/C and accessories can then run off these batteries. As a backup, the engine's alternator can also help charge the batteries while in motion. Hey - it works for the new Prius!

Btw, I like posts like this. It's high time people get called out for things like this.

See one of our posts on a certain Broad Street fast food place that insists on wasting paper products:

The bus idled, I walked over to it to make sure. Smelled the diesel also. I like the idea about solar panels on the roof, to expensive still, I guess.
