Not sure what inspired a certain fast food chain on Broad Street to start giving customers new cups with every refill, but it's extremely wasteful. Doesn't seem to be a problem for any of the other businesses on the same street nor other locations of the same chain. Someone commented that it's because their soda fountain is behind the counter - so it's a germ thing - but the fountain at the competition down the road is also behind the counter and they don't seem to have the same issue.
The only excuses to be heard are:
A) it's required by the city - which is obviously not true because no one else does it.
B) it's required by the home office of the chain - which is also obviously not true because they do not practice this at all locations of this chain.
Probably 50% of their dine in customers get refills, meaning they have added 50% more paper cup usage to their dine in cost and to the trash can! I suppose we should all be grateful that they are not using Styrofoam cups but it's still ridiculous. The owner must simply like creating needless waste and throwing money away.
