Stop using disposable dishes and silverware

Of course we know Styrofoam is like the devil to the earth. Paper and plastic cups, which are recyclable, still litter landfills everywhere. Even if you do recycle these products, the energy requirements and raw materials required to manufacture them are enormous.

Instead, pick up a cheap set of dishes for when you don't want to get out the fancy dinnerware. I picked up a 4 person setting of plates, bowls, and mugs for $6 last year at Target during their back to school sale. They are actually pretty nice porcelain, even if the finish isn't quite as good as the Crate&Barrel stuff. I picked up a cheap set of silverware with it for $5.

For those of you with kids, there are plenty of non-breakable options out there as well that are economical, but work for more than a single use.
