The City of Chattanooga has posted a job opening for Jerry Jeansommes position of Landscape Inspector, is seems reasonable to me that we should be able to hire an individual to fill this position as well as the position of Office of Sustainability.
I think Karen Hundt and Gene Hyde are expected to fulfill this position, but I think their plate is full!
I agree that the position should be filled by someone who is an expert and highly trained in sustainability. This recession is a good time to find qualified, out of work experts. I just hope the role does not turn into a cushy political appointment, based on political ties.
This inspector should not get in the role and rationalize selective enforcement of the city's conflicting and vague ordinances at the taxpayers' expense. He or she will need to tow the line on sustainability.
And the city will need to give this candidate the right tools for the job -- solid, nondiscriminatory ordinances that incorporate LEED standards. Any word yet on when the new ordinance committee is meeting?
